Hi everyone, I'm travelling up to Cape York with my 4wd club, and I would like to hear how other people waterproof there petrol 4wds for deep water crossings ? I was wondering if it was possible to waterproof computer sensors in some way, I'm intrested to hear your experiences and stories and suggetions about this... we are about to install extended breathers to the and diff and auto transmission.. We have heard a couple of horror stories, but no success stories about how to etc. Thanks.

A long, long time ago in another life, we used Silicone grease to waterproof distributor caps and such like in landrovers.

I have no reason to believe it wouldn't work with modern day stuff, but you never know it might B things up altogether.

Gday Bob the,

Got a 100LC myself although the diesel, went to the Cape in June of 08. The deepest crossing we had was Nolans Brook. Did it at night (we were running late for our camp site), the water came to just below the door handles. we tarped the front of the vehicles and kept the momentum up whilst traversing the crossing. I have stock breathers (although a snorkel) and didnt ingest any water.

The tarp helps create a bow wave. It's mad looking at the underbelly of the car after a deep crossing. The forward facing parts are wet (as expected) but the back end is dry. If you look at the car from behind you'd think you never been through water.

P.S. The auto is a major advantage (IMOHO) for these situations.

All the best and have a great trip.
