Hello everyone, we are asking this question on behalf of a friend. what would you buy? the new soon to be released Nissan Pathfinder or the Prado. Both are diesel, Nissan has more features more towing capacity plus 13 kw more out of 2.5 ltr motor, they are approx the same cost. Thanks in advance have a good day everyone. Maureen and
John

If they are the same price then it is a no contest, based on known reliabity and resale of the Prado. The previous Pathfinder was also to low to be much good off road.

Maureen
I would be very cautious of any claim by Nissan of an increased towing capacity. The current Pathfinder was originally sold with a tow bar that Nissan claimed had a ball weight capacity 50kg higher than the towbar's manufacturer recommended. They had a habit of pulling the bolts out of the vehicle where they were fitted. Close inspectiuon revealed that Nissan had actually concealed the original manufacturer's specification plate. Nissan claimed that their testing had assured them of the increased capacity, but then relied on the fact that they advised users NOT to use weight distribution hitches with the towbar (towing a 3000kg van!!!)They were quick to replace the broken ones with Hayman Reese. If the Prado is in the same price range the question is a no-brainer!!!

As Madfisher said if they are the same price than it would be no contest - get the Prado. But is hard to imagine the pathfinder would be as expensive as a Prado.

Prado will be dearer than Pathy for same specs.
Surely the friend would buy whichever he/she likes best irrespective of what EO people have to say!
And in any event if they haven't been released then no-one can offer any meaningful advice as to what they are like.

I'd favour the Prado too based on offroad ability, fuel tank size. resale and
Fuel consumption - auto prado uses 8.2 l/100k combined cycle while pathfinder is 10.2.

All Mitsubishi would make good mooring blocks, but they are not heavy enough. Fail again

So, what's not heavy enough? That's a fairly typical remark from someone who has no idea what he's talking about.

Thought the Challenger can only tow 2200kg Prado more and Pathy more again.

Have just ordered a Challenger ( after looking at Prados )
Reasons.......10 to 12K cheaper, lift up tailgate( important to us in regards to camping and towing a CT ), rear diff lock, 200kg's lighter, slightly smaller ( only two of us, don't need lots of room ).....
But the Prado is a very nice vehicle, and for the same money , I would have one over a Pathfinder anyday..

I have a 2009 Pathy Diesel Auto and luv it. Very comfy and roomy and pulls my 18 foot Supreme off road no problem. I am biased as I am a Nissan man. I did
test drive a Prado (2008) and felt like it was going to tip over when going around bends, etc. Don't know much about the new model thou.
With all the Toyota recall problems I think I would probably wait a year or two.
