Anyone planning to travel to / from or around Central Australia might want to read this and keep an eye on the weather.
Although some river beds look dry, they wont take much to run again after all the recent rains....
FLOOD THREAT ADVICE
Issued by the BUREAU OF METEOROLOGY,
DARWIN
at 1015 CST Saturday 10 APRIL 2010
AREA INVOLVED
Alice Springs District, southern
Victoria River and southern Barkly Districts.
RAINFALL SUMMARY
In the 24 hours to 9 am today there were widespread falls 10-15mm and isolated
falls over 25mm, mainly over central parts of the
Alice Springs District.
WEATHER SUMMARY
A moist and unstable northeast to northwest middle level flow prevails across
central Australia above a southeast flow across much of central Australia. The
resulting cloudband will develop and thicken during today and overnight and
gradually extend northeastwards during the weekend and then break up early next
week.
FORECAST for the rest of today and Sunday
Over the
Alice Springs District, expect scattered showers and gusty storms, with
areas of rain. Expect scattered falls 20-50mm with isolated heavier falls
50-100mm, particularly in the northwest half of the
Alice Springs District,
which may lead to significant stream rises. Over the remainder of the area,
expect isolated showers and storms with isolated falls 10-30mm, which may lead
to localised flooding.
