A bit off topic but, can anyone recommend a freeware program that will draw lines, arrows and labels on digital photos. Like a photo of a piece of equipment where I want to point to different components with an arrow and label the component. Cheers

The latest Paint program that comes with Windows7 is perfect for this. Though i assume you don't have Windows7 if your asking the question. ;)
For retouching an image, as
well as adding text and boxes etc, then
Paint.NET is a free option.
Hope that helps.

If for just a one-off - Microsoft Paint would be cheap and nasty...included with every version of Windows.

I have done that for some instructions on machinery usage etc exactly like you ask...turn this off...dont touch that...open this blue valve etc...and then used arrows to point precisely to where I am talking about...in other words a picture diagram for even the simplest of souls in my absence!
You can do it in Microsoft word easily...just cut and past the picture and then use the drawing tool bar

Hi George,
I have a free program called Photoscape that I use for basic editing. I just had a look and it appears to do what you want.
You can download it here:

Be aware you will need the free irfanpaint plugin to be installed for lines/boxes and a better text control than the basic setup.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. The easiest solution turned out to be MS Word, as suggested by Bungarra.
Cheers
