Hi Len. Was there a couple of years back and found it very interesting. Theres a pub and a couple of shops. We went noodling for opals and found some. The miners use open cut methods and it is interesting to see them in action. There is a lake next to the town which should be full at the minute.
As far as pemits go, most people don't bother. It really depends on what u think is interesting. I found the place worth a look.
