Hi everyone
I've got an 80 series. I don't know about other 80 series cruisers, but my one has got 2 placards on the drivers door.
One's for 7.50 16's and one is for 275 70 16's.
Both are slightly different diametres, very different widths and different speed ratings.
On the limits you can have on tyre sizes, speed ratings etc, lets just say I had a tyre diametre, width and speed rating that is half legal on one placard and half legal on the other placard and if you go of both put together, it's legal, can the police book me or not?
In other words, can I use one placard for what suits me best and use the other placard for what suits me best both at the same time, or can I only use one at a time?
If it depends on the state, I live in Victoria.
Thanks for your help everyone

I'll have a stab at this....
My guess is that the placard for the 7.50 16's is applicable to vehicles fitted with split rims, and the other (275 70 16) would be applicable to vehicles fitted with 1-piece wheels.. by the tyre size indicated, I'd say these would probably be on 8 inch rims....
So, in a nutshell, I'd say the answer to your question would be a definitive NO !!

Two tyre types for differant models, ie std 80 comes out with skinny 7.50's while the GXL's come out with 275's.So you should be able to use either.

My 80 also had two placards except
mine were for 15"s ,, splits or one piece , Qld transport advised all 1 type at any 1 time , no mixing of widths.

Should add(as stated below), you can only use one or the other at one time, not one size on the rear on the other on the front.

I'm absolutely most definately going to have all four tyres exactly the same, I don't even run them if they're different tread levels, I even keep them the same tyre pressure.
The bottom line is, when it's time for the tyre diametre, I want to use the 7.50 16 placard because they're a slightly larger diametre than the 275 70 16's and apart from that, I want to go of the 275 70 16's because they're wider and better speed rating when trying to find 4wd tyres.

For the moment, forget about whether or not I can run of both at the same time, let's just say I only go of the 7.50 16 one.
The tyres I'm looking at are 11.5 inches wide on 16x8 steel wheels.
What's the widest width tyre I can run in Victoria on a 7.50 16 placard?
What's the widest width wheel I can run in Victoria on a 7.50 16 placard?
Can I use steel wheels when going of the 7.50 16 placard?
Thanks

Look on the Vic roads website
Should have the limits for tyre sizes there somewhere

There is no relation between diamater and width, you can run 7.50 16 diameter and any width as long as their legal for the rim.

The placards simply say you can run 7.50 X 16 tyres on 16 X 5.5 rims
OR 275 / 70 R16 tyres on 16 X 8 rims.
Are you a laywer or a politician because it seems like you are trying to manipulate the wording to allow you to do something other than what was intended.
Best of luck!!

There was a similar trick with the hilux's. Get an SR5 then get the second placard for the splits, which then kept you within tolerance to run 31's.
If you've got a tyre that is close to size limit of the split(given fudge factors), but has the load and speed rating of the 275 70 16, noone is going to give you a second look.
