If it's only going to be temporary- why not mount it in front of the grille? Probably easier to install and easier to clen if required !!

ARB sell insect screens for radiators but say not recommended for turbo diesels, But I can't see a problem if you keep an eye on the amount of bugs building up on it to ensure a good air flow through it.
Cheers Dave..

I have a piece of shade cloth wrapped around the centre section of my bullbar. My scanguage only shows the slightest increase in temperature Max of 1 degree.
I find it much easier to clean out there and allows plenty of air to get to the grill other than the direct full frontal air which is where the insects are.
Seems to work for me.

Scanguage II is about $200 from Wooders Garage. They have an online
shop and service is great.

Toyota specifically recommend you DONT put them on a TD.
I had one I bought at Soopercrap for $18 and it fitted over the bullbar.
Cable tied it to top of bar and an ocky strap at the bottom corners to wherever I could find under the front
Kept the insects off the radiator and still let the air in.
I had taken the plastic pieces out of the inner guards to induce better airflow when we were in the west in 40+ heat.
Seemed to work as engine temp didnt go up much in view of the heat we were travelling in

I also read that in the sales material however I had what Toyota call an Insect Screen fitted to the vehicle when new. The vehicle has done 180,000 KM with about 50% outback touring without any dramas.

G/Day No. 1,
I have turbo LC 2006 Sahara , I Know you asked for shade cloth.
I have been using the flyscreen, purchased the copper or aluminium stuff not the nylon, as the metal stuff can be bent around pipe etc and it will stay there.
Just come across the
Hay Plain and the grasshoppers were bad, it stop them from buggering up the radiator and condensor, etc.
I just feed it behind the grill, and bent it around the bottom, as the condensor is a bit exposed on the corners, so I think it might protect that a bit from stones as
well.
cheers bob

Bob...Agree with you. I keep a bannister brush under the
seat to give it a quick brush down when ever I stop.
Went to Parachilna for a day trip/Sunday lunch last weekend. Car was covered in the little blighters.

I have a temporary one made from shade cloth which I use primarily for when I go through a lot of spinifex. Should work equally
well for locust plagues.
It fits over the front of the bull bar and extends under and past the radiator. Have not noticed any problems thus far, mind you, when using the screen through spinifex, I'm generally traveling at a slower rate.
Cheers
Gerry

Have a look at thread 77701.
I made a stone guard and simply attach a bit of fly screen or shade cloth to the center section in front of the radiator with cable ties whenever bugs are around.
It saves the radiators from clogging and those expensive lights from being smashed when being overtaken by other cars or when just sitting there getting pummelled by stones waiting for a road train to go by.
Worth every penny of the $60 I spent.
