The rest of the world can receive mostly for free or very cheaply HF weather satellite pictures.

http://www.yachtcom.co.uk/comms/Frequencies.htm ( make sure you wait for the entire download- only 150 Kb)

Check with Dept of Defence Navy, all the weather is received via VOLMAT when underway at sea. Maybe the SAR section in Canberra can put you onto it.

Tony
Thanks for this very interesting info.
Any chance to give me some town contact for the navy or some lead?
SAR = ?
Appreciating if you can put me a bit more in the right direction.

Wazza.
see my post. I am already downloading from http://www.bom.gov.au/marine/marine_weather_radio.shtml

They have weather fax which are maps. Good maps.

But there is no forecast passing 36 hours on these HF maps.
The BOM Internet has 4 days forecast.

These fax pics are maps similiar to what you see in the daily rag. I've never seen or heard of sat pics being broadcast on hf. Sat pics can be received and decoded direct from the sats when they pass over, vhf or uhf. I've got a little box in the shed used for decoding wefax on hf but haven't used it for many years.

Thanks Haze for this interesting website
Weatherzone

But at the moment I can NOT subscribe or even register onto www.weatherzone.com.au.
There are some sort of problem with the Weatherzone server incapable of sending ANY type of email back to me.
Which means Weatherzone can NOT send me my password.

But I am sure when it is working this is a good website.
