Gday peeps,

Just wondering what people think of the little Feroza 4WDs? Are they a thirsty number and would they tow a camper trailer weighing about 600kgs without any problems?

Cheers Hunty

The Feroza is a great little 4wd however, I would go for the Rocky version with the Turbo Diesel motor. A lot more torque for towing and better on fuel. All up, very capable 4wd that are almost indestructible. Speak from first hand experience.

Hi Hunty

Not such a good report from here - I often rate 4wds in terms of their danger to their occupants and this one does not come up well. Its not only high but short on wheelbase and difficult to control.

In this case we have had an additional experience in that we we driving in a convoy on a slick NSW outback road when we went around a mild corner.

The car immediately behind me, a feroza rolled. It could hardly have been a more dramatic demonstration of that cars inherrent limitations.

Robin,

Your comments make me think that the following driver was not driving to the conditions ;)

What may have been a mild corner for someone may not have been for another.

We had a Feroza before we had kids and loved it. It had it's limitations but was quite good in that it had quite responsive steering, but needed a suspension upgrade to minimise body roll. Otherwise you needed to watch your speed when cornering.

The Rocky from memory was slightly wider in wheel track as well as wheel base so may be a better option as a first 4wd.

Cheers Kev

I think you need to drive one before you make those comments.
I had a Feroza F310 and had no issues with the stability of the vehicle, I alos had 2 young kids in the back and didnt hesitate to take them off road with me. As long as you have the right suspension setup and tyres on the thing I cannot see any issues with them.

Hi 4runner

You really can't do things that way as opinions vary all over the place, and you can never come to an honest conclusion.

9 out of 10 3lt Patrols don't blow up , this doesn't change the fact that more blowup than any other car, and with some cars the simple fact is they tip over on a measuring table when others don't.

I agree with Kev, a 4x4 is only as good as the nut behind behind the wheel,
you balme a great little car for that, besides like the rocky they will do more than most owners will ever ask of them.

The Feroza is almost bombproof. While I don't suggest that you should disregard Robin's comments about its stability, you should read them in the context that Robin is our resident rollover expert. Over the years he has been critical of a number of 4WD's because of their "inherent lack of stability". These include the Prado, the Land Cruiser Ute and the Troop Carrier. So you can read this "inherent lack of stability" in that context. My advice is to drive the vehicle and if it does the job you want it to, go ahead with it.

Unfortunately Teege the Feroza have the tilt over problem that these other cars have , but in addition they have a much shorter wheelbase and react faster
to off-line influences.

This can become death-trap advice when you then hook such a combination up to a camper trailer pushing from the rear, espically one without brakes.

Its simple physics.

I had an F310 and towed my Ski Boat with it (about 750kg's). while it is not a speed demon on the highway it did its job. I did find though that it sucked down the juice when towing. City Driving with home made snorkle, new leads, clean points, extractors, 2" sports system, 2" lift and 30" Kumho mud terrains it was down to about 9L/100km.

And while on the subject of Feroza's , Ironic that a German girl here in AR was given one...yes given, completely free because the owner don't want it, it's been sitting for over 12 months, not started at all, they said the fuel pump was done, so we towed it around from the other side of the river back to Mt Bundy, yesterday I put one of my batteries in it just for a test, it fired up and ran a bit fumey , probably the petrol in it is a bit stale, has a creeky noise in the left front when doing a sharp U-turn, bearings are A1 , interior is good , bonnet is showing a lot of fade, and all tyres are very good, so then I turned the free hubs and give it a run up a very steep incline at the river flats embankment and it flew up there with ease, I don't think my Troopy would get up without grounding in the middle, ...yet to try,

I think this will be a great little runabout after it has a good service and tuneup
