Hi Guys,
As I have been led to believe poptops are much colder inside (during cold weather)than full vans because the thin vinyl in the top skirt does'nt insulate to the same degree as the rest of the van. That being the case is there any regulation or reason to prevent you dropping the poptop to keep the heat in while you are sleeping. My wife and I are not tall people and only have to stoop slightly to move around inside the lowered poptop.
Have'nt tried it yet and can't think of a safety reason why it would'nt be ok.

No reason at all as far as I know,

I'm in a caravan club and a number of our people do it, also when there is a lot of wind as you get a fair amount of buffeting as well.

Just as long as you don't jump out of bed and stand up straight, might knock your brains out!

Hi Kman 1,
Im laughing as right at this moment we are doing it in our Rapid and have done it often ,not because of warmth issues but because we can just hit the road without too much trouble in the morning I think its ok and we are short enough to do it :)

Cheers.

Do it regularly on overnight stops where we are looking for an early morning start.

I have not done controlled testing but would have to say that we have found no real discernible temperature differences between the pop top being up or down

I don't know about a regulation but there is a warning in most poptops I have seen not to use gas appliances in the van while the top is down. I assume that applies, to HWS, stove/oven and fridge. probably overcautious but I don't have the gas bottle turned on with the top down.
We have never had a problem with it being too cold at night in the pop top that a $10 box fan heater couldn't overcome, but that's not available if bushcamping
Cheers

Like others for a quick start in the morning we have left the top down. In the last cyclone we had it down just in case. Be mindfull if you decide to put it down while the awning is set up.

How does that help with a Rapid when the beds are surrounded by vinyl????

They always seem to me to have the worst features of a camper and van.
