I am considering purchasing a 2006 VOLKSWAGEN TOUAREG 7L MY05.
Does anyone have one or can anyone provide an opinion?

It will be for light off-roading and towing a Jayco camper-trailer.

Thank you.

Gary.
Volkswagon make fine vehicles so it should be very good. My preference would be a Merc ML , a proven vehicle. Eric

Hey Fatso, the Japs make a far better car/4wd anyday then what Australia can produce. I dont like European vehicles myself but thats me, The japcrap as you put it outlast most other vehicles on the road with their reliability and probably have the best resale of most. Corolla is one vehicle thats comes to mind as being one of them. Steve M

Hi there Gary, not sure what model the 7L MY05 is but my wifes boss HAD the touareg his was the petrol V8, biggest bucket of crap he has ever owned, had it 12 months and traded on the new 200 series cruiser, lost a few $$$ over the 12 months. He bought it second hand with nice low klms, (nice looking thing mind you) was inspected prior to him purchasing it, no accidents, paint work etc. Was always getting something done to it, use to leak like a sieve on the passengers side, VW could never find where it leaked from, the thermostat bleep itself and cost him over a grand to be replaced, the aircon kept loosing gas, the self leveling suspension also played up (apparantly he could raise or lower the vehicle from inside with turn of a dial ??) and the list went on hence why he got rid of it. I believe the T/D motor is a ripper but not sure if this is the model your talking about........Regards Steve M

A mate has one (2009) V6 3 litre model and he reckons its a ripper. Tows really well. He has no complaints after 40,000k.

I'm tossing up between the Taureg and the Landrover Disco 4 as my nest tug.

I have also read that the new model Taureg coming out soon does not have low range, so that may rule out the Taureg for me in the future

Most of the models have good performance however, it seems that they can be very expensive to maintain - particularly when out of warranty. Have a look here for some user/owner reports. there are many Australian users amongst the group... Touareg Owners Group Good luck ( as you will need it).

I drove the Hyundai ix35 yesterday (turbo diesel, 6 speed auto, all the stuff I don't need - but need to have)

I will be test driving one of these 103TDI's tomorrow
they were awarded "Best Recreational Four Wheel Drive Award"
The Tiguan 103TDI diesel won Best Recreational four wheel drive award, at 'Australia’s Best Car Awards' 2008.

Probably depends on price point and the end use as to what you need to buy, this suits me (I think)
