Hi,
Heading north next weekend from Perth and our first stop was going to be on the side of the Murchison river near Kalbarri next to the hwy (just off the side of the road ). Has anyone stopped there before? Just wanted to get a feel if it was ok to take a 16 ft Jayco off road van down there and your thoughts if it was a nice spot?
Regards Mark and Shaz.

Hi Mark and Shaz,

There is a big free camping area at the point where the old highway crosses the river (Galena Bridge). There are toilets on the southern side only (dont know what they are like), and heaps of space on the northern side. If you want a fire would pay to BYO wood.

Cheers,

Val

Hi mark and shaz n

It should not be a problem it is a very popular spot so you won't be on your own I would think.

Plenty of room and camp fire spots down off the road.

cheers

Gidday

Ditto re the wood for a fire.

And watch out for the blue wrens chasing insects down by the river bank.

Cheers

Hi Mark and Shaz, you will have no problem getting your van down there, we have taken our 18ft van down there a couple of times now, a good place to camp. It is very popular but plenty of room, need to get there reasonably early if you want the river bank though. The toilets are on the Southern side of the river and are reasonably clean I think. Both times we stayed we camped closer to the main road so as to get a river bank spot (got there too late to get river spot further in), the problem with that is the trucks you hear at night but that didn't worry us.
Hope this helps a little.
Cheers

Hi yu,
The southern side is the most popular, if you are self contained best on the northern side, we camped there couple years back with a 20' van.
you wont have any probs at all.
Cheers

Hi Mark and Shaz

Good spot. We got in just as it was getting dark, and found plenty of room. Pit toilets and a dump point. Far enough away from the road for an uninterrupted night's sleep. It is just the right distance from Perth for a first night if heading for more northerly destinations.
