Has anyone had experience in replacing the 240v element in the Truma HWS. The wife forgot to run water through before turning the power on.

Yep,
Dead set easy, cost about $250 for the element.
As long as the unit is accessible.
All you need to do is undo the two nuts that hold the element in and the one that holds the round sensor to the unit,
Pull it out taking note of which way the curve in the element faces.
Replace.
Unless of course it was like
mine and there was a leak which I thought was from the O Ring seal, turned out to be a manufacturing defect in the weld. where the pipe goes through the side of the unit.

Thanks Notso, sorry I didn't get back to you earlier but had to rush of on an programmed trip and only just returned. The truma in our van is under a wardrobe and a pig to get to. Is the element behind the small square box attached to the bottom of the heater. I have tried to get a manual/instructions for the unit but I'm having no luck. Dometic won't even reply to emails'
Cheers

Truma Manual
I think this is the correct manual for yours
If not
check here.
Truma water heaters
In
mine the element can be remove3d without any dismantling of the cover.
But if yours is under a cupboard, you may have to pull the whole thing out. A mate with a Golf Caravan had to pull his right out to get at the element.
