Hi everyone,
We are planning to leave from
Sydney for a trip to the Kimberleys in just a few weeks, however have to be
home end of June so our house and dog sitters can leave on their own holiday. So first question is does anyone know of a reliable and safe place in
Darwin where we can store our Landcruiser. We expect to fly
home, then fly back up again 4 to 6 weeks later to continue the trip down through Alice,
Coober Pedy and what ever else we can fit in.
Second Question is the Plenty /Donohue highways, also the Tanami. We have been looking on the website and they seemed to be rated as "caution" or 4wd high clearance and some parts closed. This put on on the 10th april. Anyone know what that route is like now. I guess our other route would end up via Mt Isa over to the Sturt and across to
halls creek where we want to meet up with the rest of the group end of May.
Any help with either questions greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Phil and Sue

Hi Phil
As you aren't towing (so it sounds), you shouldn't have a problem with the Tanami.
Check out Qld and NT Roads websites to ensure the Plenty/Donahue is open as wet weather has caused recent closures. Websites should also give phone numbers to ring to
check for the latest road status.
Fuel range needs to be carefully considered on these outback roads. Plenty of past threads for you to look through.

Thanks, will
check those sites out. We are towing, ...a
Kimberley Kamper95 model which will be going down to Peter Hand at
Ulladulla next week for a complete
check out and service. Trying to decide wether I should pack the turfer winch for this trip. Took it to
Cape York in 95 and never used it; but if we do the Plenty and Tanami on the leg up to the Bungles we will be on our own.

Hi Phil
We have had a warn winch on the bull bar for years and have never used it. Then again with a heavy caravan, it is there as 'insurance' which we hope we shouldn't need. You certainly won't need any winch on the
well used inland roads such as the Tanami. We always travel on our own.

There is a bloke called Col Cordingly in
Darwin who has undercover vehicle storage facilities. I stored my vehicle and camper trailer there a few years back. Can't locate his number but he will be in the
Darwin book or Yellow pages. He is a bit of a fishing legend up that way as
well. Look him up.

Hi Sue and Phil,
We also required storage in
Darwin for a 5 day jaunt south for our Land Cruiser and Camper. Have found a fabulous storage only 5 mins from the airport at Jingili. They will even take you to the airport!
Called Airport Car Storage phone number is 0418 894 059 - Lovely lady called Jenny, most helpful.
Good luck with your trip, might see you on the Tanami!
