I know of a Victorian group planning for a West to East crossing in August.

I do but like many remote trips it's a closed convoy. I can pass on info or ask a question of them if required.
When you say it was overgrown do you mean the vegetation has come back hard this year or the wind has obliterated all traces of the track. In 06 when we went through there was relatively little scrub to contend with over the majority of the route.
