New to Oziexplorer

Hi all,

Just a quick question as I don't have time to go pouring of past threads.

Can anyone give me directions in getting started with Oziexplorer? I have ordered a portable GPS unit (Operating system is Windows CE 5.0) that says it's compatible with OE and many other GPS programs. Where would I go and how much would I be expected to pay for the program - also, do you have to buy separate maps for the different areas you traverse - ie, 'Flinders Ranges"
Thanks.

Hi SmokeyD
You can download OziExpCE from here.
The cost for the full version is $40.
If your unit is a generic Chinese unit you will probably need the PND - ARM version.
To see how OziExpCE works you could have a look at the Hema Tutorials that are available here.
Yes, you would have to buy maps the suit what need.
If you are getting a generic Chinese unit, this may be of interest.
Email me if you need more info.
Cheers
Neil

The other thing to remember is that OziCE is designed to be used with the full version on a PC. Therefore you really should be thinking about buying the full blown version as well.

Maps to get you started are available FREE from the Natmap web site. They cover all of Australia at 1:250,000

A good starting point on your journey is to read the help files available with the program.

Hi,
Yes, I have contacted the folks at the Oziexplorer site and have been directed to purchase the WinCE version - which will work fine on my PND.

Just one more query if I may - you mention the FREE Natmap site - I am unable to find this particular one. Can you give me any assistance?

Thanks

You start here to select the maps you want to download.

The map type to select is ECW. These contain the information OziE needs to create the .MAP files. These are the files OziE uses to goereference the files that actually contain the mapping information. You will probably want to convert the maps to from ECW to the format OziCE prefers to use (ECW will work but require a lot of processor power.) The conversion program, called IMG2OZF is available free from the OziE web site.

To do this you need the PC version.

You are now probably totally confused - sorry. It can all be a fairly steep learning curve, but well worth it once you understand how it all works. There is a lot of info in the OziE help files, and also the OziE and OziCE discussion groups.

Good luck
