Months in the planning, the time has come to hit the road.
We will not be going north as the Road through Windorah ect is still closed.

So we will travel south to Yunta and the up into the Flinders. Oonadatta Track, The Rock, Kings Canyon, West Mac D Ranges and maybe home via the Plenty if it is open by then.

Thank you to all who helped and offered advice in setting up my rig for this trip, you assistance and knowledge has been invaluable.

Hope the old HJ 80 keeps on keeping on.

Cheers

Its funny you should say 8.30am we have travelled with tents, camper, caravan and back to camper and always seem to be on the road by 9am that's with out watching the clock while packing up. The exception is many swag and tarp trips.
A big IF Walkers Crossing is open in the first part of Sept we are heading out again. Last time was the swag. This time camper Hilton.
Cheers

Good on you Wayne. Have a great trip. I guess there's one upside to you having to change your itinerary. You will have more time to stop and smell the roses. AND, the Outback will be fabulous right now.

Have a great trip. It's wonderful country out there.

We did a similar excursion in 2008. The kids still talk about it.

We're heading off in July again for Innamincka and other parts.

Safe travels.

Have a good trip. I'm off tomorrow morning also, heading west to Windorah and across the Plenty.

There is some conflicting road advice between this site, QLD MRD, and the Diamantina Shire's web site. link

According to the shire's web site, roads shouldn't be a problem from Windorah onwards. Just also spoke to the shire, and then confirmed their report is correct. Advice was just to drive to conditions and to watch the causeway at Monkira.

I don't know your intended route to get to Windorah thou. That may be your hold up.

Cheers

We were going through Quilpie. The problem was around Monkira west of Windorah. Because of the conflicting information I decided to go south. Did not want to get to Windorah and not be able to get through.
The pup at Windorah told me the only road open was via Birdsville
We will be coming home via the Plenty I hope

Good luck Wayne.

May your journey be more relaxed (and a bit less competitive) than the 1978 one...

Please keep us posted,

I'm heading out in 2 months also, going Bourke-cameron corner-birdsville-boulia-dohohue-plenty-alice and so forth.

So any road info for any of those routes from people that have actually travelled recently would be fantastic! I'll be starting my own thread eventually, but i though i'd steal some light from this post :D
