Gidday,

Thanks for your prompt response. A couple of questions. Is yours an electronic push button or operated by knob? What is the power input and output? and finally the size.

Thanks for your help

Ours just failed. Screws fell out of the fan motor, and generator overheated in the microwave. There are better options.

G/Day Joma
We have one in the Van, its a Convection type, the Cook uses it quite often mainly for nukeing vegetables or reheating leftovers ect, it's built into the cupboard, if it ever dies it would be a hell of a job getting it out lol.

Cheers

Ok, I'm open for discussion on this one, and I preface this by saying I don't use one -
my feeling is that a small "inverter" type microwave will be less stressful on a 12v/240v inverter. Simply coz it regulates the power to the magnetron (mw generator) at a high frequency compared with the slow on/off power control of the more conventional (not convectional) microwave ovens. With the slow on/off power control, the 12/240 inverter is going from high power to nearly zero power repeatedly - it has to keep trying to regulate its 240v output under duress.
Unless you're cooking at 100% power all the time, then there is no issue.
My experience with a particular 12/240v inverter was that pulsing the appliance on and off repeatedly caused the inverter's early demise. Several times.
Ok, now shoot me down...

And I've seen dedicated 12v microwave ovens for sale, but they're many times the cost of a cheap conventional oven.

cheers
Gerry

You will never run a 240v microwave on an normal camping type inverter, they pull a huge current in pulses, even the "inverter" type pull big current in short bursts. We tested about half a dozen small ones. Typical amp draw on 12v was up around 70 amps, there is a reason 12v microwaves cost so much ;-))
