Hi all..
Aldi, from May 13, will be selling a vehicle mounted winch for $399..I remember a couple of years back they were selling a winch for about $799 which turned out to be the same winch that another company sold (Ironman from memory but I could be wrong) for a much higher price..
Does anyone have a heads-up on this new one? Could it also be a reputable brand that Aldi has bought a truckload of and selling them off at little or no profit to entice people into their store? I want a winch, realise it would also mean a new bull bar which would also mean new suspension etc so the total cost of the exercise would be pricey..an electric winch for the price of a Tirfor etc would help soften the blow..
Cheers
Rich

I don't know anything about the Aldi Winch but having shopped at Aldi I believe their customer service is first rate experiencing this personally. There are numerous factories in China manufacturing winches, generators, air compressors etc......so you maybe correct in assuming that Ironman marketed a Chinese winch (probably still do) There are some who read the posts on this forum that are against fitting a winch I have used my Warn a few times, saving me a lot of hard work especially in circumstances when I was buy myself. I took my vehicle into an ARB outlet here in Victoria and had the bull bar, suspension & winch all fitted in the one go. I have bought some products from China & one thing I noticed if the item was not satisfactory it was replaced ASAP without them requesting the return of the original.

You are joking about Aldi customer service aren't you - is non existent and they only honour their return policy when it suits them - most of their products are of poor quality.

Gotta agree ... have had nothing but good experiences with Aldi. Have needed to return a couple of things, and it was done cheerfully, promptly and without question.

No idea on their winches, but I have bought tools and stuff like that, and they have all proven to be very good, even if made in China.

Can't beat Aldi Customer Service,

Bought a little electric sander and literally wore/burnt it out. Took it back, way out of warranty, on the off chance. The store person asked me what I preferred, replacement or refund. Can't do better than that.

If I were a tradesman who flogged his equipment day in and day out I would not be looking at Aldi gear. However, for the average Joe Blow who uses the stuff now and again their products are pretty hard to beat.

Me to as I reckon Aldi customer service is tops as far as I'am concerned with both grocery & non grocery items.

& as for "most of their products are of poor quality". Well we have not experienced that & are finding ourselves doing our weekly grocery shop at Aldi more frequently & enjoying many $$$ in savings.

Family and friends purchased a total of seven last time. Six are still working OK (one under water a few times). The one that had a problem (electrical) was refunded without a hassle.

If they are Ironman, I would purchase again.

Hi Rich
I bought one two years ago for the troopy, paid $499.00 from memory. Used it several times in anger and had no problems with it. Had a good warranty as well. Would buy one again.

cheers

Thanks Ritchie for the heads up!

It seems to be storewide.
It's a 38kg 12V or 24V 4kW (5.5HP) series would motor (good!) rated for 4,300kg single pull. It even has a wireless remote (hopefully with some alternate control as well!). 3-stage planetary gears ~195:1 ratio. 4-way roller fairlead, 8.3mm dia cable x 28m. I year warranty. Even leather gloves!

I'm getting one. I suspect its another one of Aldi's bulk-buy re-labelled quality brands.

Also selling is a $50 ($49.99) 4WD Recovery kit (8t snatch strap, etc); a $99 air compressor (I think the same as I bought last year - equivalent to $150-$200 units elsewhere).

And a $89 3.5" GPS Navigator. I wonder if it's similar to the $80 unit a mate bought on eBay from China a few years back. After it found roads even he did not know existed, he gave his $450 Tom-Tom to his son!

Only one sleep to go!

It seemed this winch closely resembled the Warn Tabor9k (formerly Magnum) selling for around $1,100.
The Tabor seems to get "good for the price" reviews, but may not be for the seriously minded...
But Tabors etc have slightly higher ratios....

I then found the "Synthetic" and Ningbo-Lift winches that match the Aldi specs with the "optional" wireless remote. (See Synthetic & Ningbo.)

Yeah - for $400, it beats my $1900 unit. I have rope backups anyway...
I'll get my $89 speeding ticket saver whilst I'm at it.
