I own a 2000 model 3ltr turbo Diesel Hilux and love it, but time and klms later I feel the need to upgrade. Question..
Not really a Ford person but the extra $'s for a new Hilux make me think about a Ford
Ranger, which legally tows a heavier load than the Hilux. Both vehicles are tray-back utes and are 3 ltr diesels with turbo.
Any thoughts on a comparative basis would be appreciated....
Will be towing a 2--2.5 tonne c'van.

Hi. I own a 2001 hilux from new. I have a great run from it and 210,000 kms. However i don like the new Hilux's and I would not buy one because they have morphed into a town car.
I cant say too much about the
ranger exept that I have driven one and I was struck by how quiet the motor is. The rim inside was standard fare nothing flash and the way I like it. No good complaining about not having wind up windows any more because it looks like electric is here to stay. Nice car to drive, I thought.
I tell everyone my Hilux will last me out or at least twenty years altogether which would put total 400,000 kms on the clock and my body will be wearing out by then anyway.
If hilux becomes a problem I will be looking at the market in general but the
Ranger is something I will remember to look at too.

The new Triton single cab with a flat tray has a tow capacity of 3000kgs.
If the new ones go as
well as my 2009 GLX/R it'd be a cracker.

I had the 3litre non-turbo Hilux which was an incredible vehicle but when I bought a caravan, I had to upgrade. I went for the extended cab trayback
Ranger - it is now just over 2 years old and has done 54,000 KMs with no problems at all. It is a great tow vehicle as, in addition to towing the van, I also towed my sons 6.5m (2500Kg) boat from
Broome to
Perth and couldn't believe how the
Ranger performed.
Main reason for the choice was price but I also find the suicide doors great and I thought that it drove better then the new Hilux.
It really is a Mazda so don't get hungup about not being a Ford person.
