Fascinating Richard. Where is it? It looks beautiful but would be hard going walking or driving on it. Maybe the beach's way of protecting itself from 4wds screaming up and down the beach LOL.

Certainly protects the beach.............you can't drive on it....the faces are sheer and up to 2 metres........it's at
lucky bay about 40k's south of Kalbari

I guess my first thought is its experience prolonged period of mild weather
creating a "making" beach - in other words prevailing winds and storms havnt stripped sand off creating an excess of sand which is starting to foerm dunes or foredunes.
if conditons continue they could start to vegetate and stabalise extending the dune buffe out r against the sea
- but thats just a guess
where is it?

It's at
Lucky Bay some 40k's south of
Kalbarri......interesting idea but in fact the prevailing winds if anything have been quite strong...........it actually started in a small way last year but this year it was like this..........the other thing is it is only in this location the FLAT beach exstends south for some 20 odd k's with no changes

strong winds are what "makes" a beach if they come from the right direction they create waves that deposit sand rather than strip it
you can see the tidal effected flat area near the waves which makes me think that sand has been there a while allowing it tostart getting wind effected
certainly never seen it before

it's certainly a fascinating phenomenon...........what gets me is that this area has very strong southerly winds for probably 6 months of the year..........every year........this hasn't changed for 20 years that I can recall and what you see has only appeared over the last couple of years???????????

get outmore, I reckon you are right. Looks like more sand has deposited there with perhaps a change in the localised prevailing winds.

But wind patterns have been changing of late (generally speaking).
I would suspect the a new prevailing direction causes whatever turbulance etc.
Maybe like the circular pattern north of
Melbourne due to the ranges under certain wind directions & temperature layers....
This beach looks like its getting more (or stronger) land breezes than it used to....

it is feasible that land breezes have been stronger and more frequent.....still not convinced as there are 20 k's of flat beach heading south with same foredunes and exposure to wind???????????
