Beemer.
Was there the weekend of 1st May.
Went in via Herne Spur, rocky and steep but otherwise no drama.
Came out on Zeka which had several steep rocky sections and was slow going. However, the track was mainly dry. There were sections with red mud/clay that could be interesting if it rains a bit (and it has been rainining in Melb this week).
Hopefully you wont be on your own though?
Stephen

There's a sprinkling of snow at the moment accross the High Plains & as they have had rain over the last few days be prepared for a slippery decent into the valley. Over the last 6 months the track has been chopping out in a couple of spots but is OK for any medium clearance 4by (Triton etc) with an all terrain type tyre pattern. I would only recommend trailers on this section of track in the wet to the very experienced.
Cheers Craig...............

Hi Beemer
I will also be heading down the
Zeka Spur tk on the 21st May ... around mid arvo, if i get on the road not to late.
I have been keep a close eye on the weather up that way and was thinking that the Zeka could be quite interesting if it gets more rain over the coming week.
Are you towing in your camper trailer on this trip ?

G'day Anthony,
Yes we will be towing. If weather becomes to wet we will most likely travel via Mrytleford.
I have done Zeka many times in the past but only a couple with the camper.
We usually don't have too much trouble going in but it just depend on how wet the clay sections are.

Yes, I don't like the sound of the clay sections on the Zeka if its going to be wet.
Either way, wet or dry, I will give the Zeka a go. I will air down the mud tyres a bit and take it easy.
I will keep a look out for you in the Wonnongatta. I am heading to a
camp on the Wonnongatta river over the weekend, heading out via Zeka on the monday.
Will be travelling in a 2003 GX Prado diesel, a dull gold colour with black steel rims.
All the best with the tow in.
cheers Anthony

We travelled up Zeka spur (Wonnangatta to Howitt rd) 16th May 2010, very lucky with weather i guess as it hasn't rained in a week or so. Its a little greasy about half way up and a bit of water run off at the top section. Unless there is a big change in weather you shouldn't have any problems. We had six bikes, a
well set up '70 series landcruiser and a stock standard navara with road tyres get up it no worries. It took roughly 2 hrs for the 30+km (slowest vehicle of course) I was actually surprised how busy the track was I reckon we passed about eight 4x4's in an hour. We also did butcher country, hernes spur, billy goats,
eaglevale track and mt.margaret track. The wonnangatta river is flowing nicley but the deepest crossing we encountered would have been no more than about 0.7m. Have fun its certainly brilliant country up there. Cheers Dave.O
