We're interested in travelling Melbourne to Adelaide with caravan via the Great Ocean Road. Does anyone have some good tips, places to stay, things to see etc - nice offroad sites? Appreciate any thoughts. Thanks

I was last on the GOR in 1969 and place that sticks in my mind was Apollo Bay and the beach , it's a great scenery drive too.

Did the Great Ocean Road from April 23 to 26 and had not such nice weather.
I also cycled through this area in 2004 but late November when it was drier and warmer.
Apollo Bay is nice but we paid through the neck and a bit more for a caravan site in town. There are nice eateries/cafes in Apollo Bay. Suggest a visit to Lavers Hill and the tree top walk nearby.
After visiting the viewing area for the Apostles, go and visit the Chocolate factory and Timboon Cheese and the Distillery.
Port Campbell was also a great spot to walk and have a meal.
Enjoy it

We stayed one night behind the 'pub' at Laver's Hill - they have a few powered spots and a large camping area just down the slope - quite nice overall - didn't cost much. Superb blue wrens in abundance, flitting about the scrub. Overall, we didn't notice many opportunities to bush camp on the GOR (but we don't really know the area) - the main towns are all very tourist orientated though... $$$$.

Wye River CP is nice. So is Surfside Holiday Park in Warnnambool. Never seen a better camp kitchen in all my travels. There are plenty of other good CP's along the road.

Johanna Beach is one of the best sites I have stayed on my travels around OZ.

We were going to stay one night, we ended up staying two, we would have stayed more but we had to head home.

Cheers
