the only tip i can offer is enjoy it! we are 2 months into a 9 month trip around oz.in port augusta at the moment, uluru next week. We have a 2 year old, also travels well. he is kept busy with the sights and sounds of each new place we visit. he burns his energy at parks, paygrounds and has a dvd player in the car to fill in the gaps. We have nature dvds and mostly educational dvds on for him, he loves the animals. i am amazed at how much he is learning just from being on the road, taking in new things. he is toilet training aswell so we are staying at a lot of caravan parks for the ammenities. we are also doing the occasional free camps. the trip is working out cheaper than we expected too which is a bonus. We are travelling in a rodeo towing a camper trailer. we chose the camper trailer for the extra room that caravans dont offer, we have a full annexe which is perfect for him to play under when its raining, gives us some space too. we have a basic itinery but that changes all the time, a set direction but no real timeframe to be anywhere special, just flip a coin when we come to an intersection lol. i suggest getting Camps 5 book and checking out badgers caravan park reports website, just google badgers caravan park for reviews of caravan parks, we found it very useful when deciding on a park. if you are self sufficient free camping will save you a lot of money, we are finding most caravan parks charge us for our 2 year old which adds to the cost. i hope you and your family have the time of your lives, We are. cheers

Thanks for the reply, I have got the DVD players sorted!!! but dont usually need to use them much, just good to buy us another hour or so if the winging starts before we are ready to stop! I have already got a copy of camps 5 but will have to check out badgers website. Enjoy the rest of your trip.

Once again....enjoy it!!! We have been travelling for 18months, have been stopped in one spot for work for a few months and just about to hit the road again next week. We have 2 boys who are 10 and 8 now and they have thrived on the things they have learnt and experienced while on the road. You will meet alot of other families along the way who are doing the same thing!! We have made life long friends while travelling, one family we met have 2 children just slightly older than your own and will be in the Cape York area around the same time as you.
I hope the time between when you leave and now doesnt drag on too much for you but I'm sure you will be kept busy getting organised to head off.

We originally planned to travel for 12 months and here we are 18 months on and still going.
There are so many highlights and one of them would have to be the great people you meet. Some of the others so far are-
Kings Canyon
Dolphins at Tin Can Bay QLD
Fraser Island
Swimming with Sea Lions near Streaky Bay in S.A
Lucky Bay, Esperance W.A
Kalbarri W.A
....and the diverse country you see in between all of these places.
