g'day all
where is the best place to mount the etag.
IE.top of screen behind r/view mirror(seems it would be awkward to remove)
bottom of screen.
not at all (son in-law just puts on the dash ,reckons it works alright)
it will be used between 2 vehicles.
thanks in advance.
cheers.

Behind the rear view mirror it is out of sight and is easy enough to remove and refit to the mounting bracket.
Cheers Kev

In Qld, there is no charge for having another transponder, so I woud be inclined to have one for each vehicle lets face it, sooner or later you will be in the vehicle that doesn't have the tag or you wil forget to grab it, I used to do the same, it became a real PITA.
I've mounted both
mine just behind the mirror, they are a lot smaller now and when its behind the mirror, you can hardly see that its even there.

It's actually not allowed to be used on multiple vehicles. Each transponder is linked to the rego number of the vehicle it's issued to. Just get a second transponder for the other vehicle on the same account.

Some of the new smaller eTags must be mounted on the top of the windscreen. I confirmed they do not work on the dash.
Mine is behind the mirror - out of site but easy to remove when in anti-capitalist environments.
One eTag per vehicle. Buy them interstate if cheaper or give better rates for your vehicle (eg, utes).

Up near the mirror and buy one for each vehicle.
I think they are cheapest in queensland
that is where
mine are from.

Here in Nsw you can link different rego numbers to one tag.
as Shaver said.
You can go to the rta web site and do it on line.
I have my motor bike listed and my sons car listed and don't even take the tag in the car or on the bike.
When you get the statement it just says tag not identified.
And links it to the rego number an billed ,No extra fee.
A friend just keeps his in the clove box and has three cars linked as
well.

An extra charge in Melb if you do that -- no need for one on a motor bike.

Hey man were do live out in the boonies.
It is used for legalized theft.
When traveling in the big smoke on toll roads and bridges.
there are no more toll collectors in most cases
Instead an eletronic device that reads your Etag as pass through it..
If you don't have an Etag there are phone numbers posted to call so you can pay or you will get a bill and possibly a fine in the mail.

Hi Rob,
So what would be the normal tourist procedure? Would most have bought E-Tags or is it easier to just pay on the phone after you have crossed the toll?
Cheers

Hi Alan
Bit hard to answer that, even though i live inThe
Sydney area i
was reluctant to buy one.
and allways went the other way round toll roads
But the harbour
bridge is etag only now and got no option for me even though i probably go over it once a year.
Depends on how long and were your travelling to
possibly be easier to pay up the deposit and get one save the hassle
of ringing. And stoping to pay if they are still manned and fumblng for change.
And interstate on unfamilar roads you can be on a toll road before it's to late to turn back.

Alan,
If you are driving through Melb you can buy a day pass either at the start of the freeway (signed) or at any
post office in Vic beforehand.
