ON Sunday a dedicated army of volunteers will fill buckets and wash cars in an effort to raise funds for Fisher Road School, Dee Why.

The school caters for northern beaches students aged between four and 18 years of age who have an intellectual disability in the moderate to severe range.

The fundraising car wash was the brainchild of Cromer’s Katy Grbas, whose 17- year-old son Jake attends the school.

“The staff work so hard and often fundraise themselves, so I just really wanted to do something to help them out,” she said.

Earlier this year Katy stumbled across her perfect fundraising idea.
“I was walking past the school and I saw the lovely circular driveway, and I just thought to myself, ‘I know exactly what I can do with that’,” she said.
Once the school had agreed Katy got to work organizing the car-washing team.

“I recruited my own little army of volunteers - we’ll have school parents, friends and a few of the senior students from the school helping out on Sunday,” she said.

All proceeds from the day will go to the school.
“We hope to raise $6500 to pay for a smart board that’s much needed by our high-needs class,” she said.

The fundraising car wash will run at the school in Fisher Road, Dee Why, from 10am to 2pm on Sunday.
