Hi Looking at 2005 discovery 3. Would like the diesel model but still quite pricey. How does the 4ltr v6 petrol perform as far as economy and towing (towing jayco outback style camper) capability? Am looking at using it for an oz lap, This is the family / touring car, not csr trips etc.

Cheers

Consensus seems to be that the V6 petrol is a pretty good performer. Reliability could be an issue with '05's, better late '06/07. Economy on par with V6 petrols, around 16-17L/100 towing.

From most reports these are a great vehicle. I would be buying the diesel, lower the KM's the better. Occassional person complains about the $800 service bill no doubting they will be dearer to service as will parts than our ever reliable but less spectacular Japanese brands.

hotfishez,
As with any 4x4, have someone who knows a bit about your choice of vehicle look it over before finalising the deal.
Make sure that the service records show correct and regular servicing.

Landrover Discovery's make great family touring vehicles but are also extremely capable off road, even in dead stock configuration.

It would pay to check out aulro.com for further answers, this forum tends to favour japanese vehicles.

Try the above forum. From what I remember, I thought the consensus was that the V6 was a bit underpowered, particularly for towing. V8 would be better and the TDV6 diesel, better still.

I am aiming for the diesel, just researching the petrol just in case. Have found a diesel looking at tomorrow, 2006 with 70k on the clock. Hopefully does not have the leather seats......
