I have never been camping in my life, but a friend and I are going to see if we can rough it out in about 4 weeks.

We are wanting to know of anywhere near the Sunshine Coast - Not too many hours drive out if possible. A very quiet place, not many if any people around. We are also wanting it to have a place to swim/fish and allowed to make fires.

If anyone can help, please let me know.

Check this link.

It is a publication called "Dirty Weekends" and there is one for South East Queensland. Might prove helpful. You did not mention it, but if you have a 4WD it will help.

Good luck.

Hi Nishee

If you have a look at your post, it now has an 'Article Overview' link. Click on that, and you will find a lot of info on camping, camp cooking, what to take etc. A lot of good info there.

If you plan ahead, I'm sure you will enjoy yourselves.

Have fun, Dave

First timers, I would highly recommend Island View caravan park Imbil. It has bush camping where you can have a fire byo wood or you can purchase it on-site. They also hire out canoes. We stayed there for three months last year. I think by now they should have their new amenities block. Imbil is only 50 min from Coolum, don't worry if you have forgotten anything the fish shop and local grocer stock heaps of camp gear. Go for a drive out to the dam. Depends on your driving ability the track to Landcruiser Mount Park is a nice drive challenging in only one part from memory as you go past a gate. The lover part is accessible with any car. Actually I wouldn't mind seeing it for my self again. Last time it was in drought.

We stayed at Island view on the labour day holiday weekend just gone. I've never seen so many campers jammed into a park. Mind you the owners were only accepting cash and no receipts were given. The new amenities block was not open so thousands of people with just two toilets and two showers each for male and female. It was the first time we'd visited that park and I'd like to stay there again at a less busier time.

Sounds like the secret is out. You cant go any where on the coast with out being crammed in. They have many 4x4 clubs meet there. One time when we were there they had three at once. With saying that during the week we had the place to our selves.Image Could Not Be FoundImage Could Not Be FoundThese photos were taken October 09 before the drough had broken. I bet its green now.

Thanks so much for the help.

Someone at home said Charlie Moreland... But I don't know how reliable they are.

Will check out all the suggestions.

Cheers.

Swimming in June - crickey, you must be a tough bugger!
Take plenty of warm gear - gets very cold at night if you're heading up into the hills.

And most important of all, take some "wet ones" and "hand sanitiser" if you don't have running water or showers.

Make sure you practice putting your tent up before you go..and take the instructions with you!
Make a list of what you think is essential and then ask for advice here.
Take some warm stuff for night. Nothing worse than being cold.
