Hi Folks
We are leaving NZ tomorrow to fly to
Broome pick up a camper and travel the the Kimberly area for three weeks.
I hear today that a lot of the roads are closed.
Can anyone confirm what is open or closed
Thanks
Ray

Not positive about whats closed, but most of the Gibb road i think is pretty wet. Still raining around parts too, but should of cleared by the weekend. I would say by time you get here it would have all passed and will be clear skies and everything will be open again.

G'Day Ray,
All national parks (in the Kimberly) with the exception of Geike Gorge are closed & I believe
Gibb River Rd has a three tonne limit due to the persisting unseasonal rain.
Cape Leveque road is closed also
CU down the road

Ray
Have a look at this site
DEC. It seems that at least one week of your trip will be affected by the closures.

Sorry I should have read further, apart from the closure for baiting, there is an overall closure with no date set for re-opening.

Good day Ray I have just heard from friends in the West Kimberly that Napier Downs which is just to the north of the Lennard river on the
Derby side of the King Leopold range had up to 9am this morning recorded 190mils,and it is still overcast not what you want to hear so the GRR might be closed for a while check with the Main Road Dept in
Derby when you arrive hope it dosnt effect your trip to much.
Cheers Dave

Dont worry kiwi, If the roads are still closed, head down the road to
Karijini National park. The gorges there are earier to access and just as good as any on the GRR. Then go over to
Ningaloo NP. You'll have a great time down that way.

Kiwi Ray
I would recommend travelling to
Kununurra by tarmac and work your way back Westward over the
Gibb River Road.
Today Thurday in
Broome we had rain this morning and afternoon.
Also the
Gibb River Mountain Bike Challenge commences Sunday from
Derby. There will be a couple of hundred bikes and vehicles in convoy. Alot of the National
Park grounds are closed and only accessible to the riders.
