howdy folks...hows things?

My old trusty 1991 80 series injector pump (non tacho) is paying up (making loud throaty noise over the engine noise & power & economy are down). I've found a couple of second hand ones starting from $270 with ~200,00km's & apparently in good nick...so thinking of going for a new replacement instead of fixing/ reconditioing old one...

Questions are:

- What numbers need to match on the IP's plate? Or would any early '90s 1hz IP do the job? eg. 22100-32340

- i'd imahine its smart to change the seals (3 from memory?), these should be easy to chase from an injector place?

- is there anything else i can do to check/ clean the replacement IP before I put it on eg. the tiny fine mesh filter in body of IP.

- as my Cruiser doesnt have a tacho and Ive love one, if I can get a replacement IP with a tacho line, is it easy to then connect this to a tacho on the dash or is it more involved? Are these IP's with a Tacho the same as the IP's without one?

Cheers 4 that guys. Great Forum....

Ro

IMHO, I wouldnt bother with a second hand pump, $270 is cheap but it may be as bad as yur current pump.Injector pumps need servecing every 100000kms anyway so unless it has just been done I wouldnt bother.
For around $700 more you could get your pump rebuilt.

Agree with Mr Pointyhead, At Lcool, these guys know the ins & outs of 80's.
They're a wealth of info there, If your not a member, join up, it's worth your while. I've been a member for awhile now and when it comes to the 80, they do know their stuff.

IPs are not easy to say yep thats a goody or no thats knackered, its not something you take lightly. if you suspect a problem there are many good diesel injection specialists out there to help ith such problems ie, my mate has a TD 80 that was very diesel smoky. he went to rankin diesel here in melbourne who was a recommendation to him. they tested his pump and injectors to reveal the injectors were good the pump was worn out but repairable all for no charge(free quote). took it in one morning, picked it up in the afternoon and he had a smile from ear to ear, hadnt gone that hard in years and no smoke. cost him $800 with km and time warranty so if it were me thats what i would be doing. i know the results from a bad IP, it cost me $12500
