Hi all.... Just wondering if the manual hubs off a DX GU Patrol will fit in place of the Auto units that are on the ST model???

Ive enquired about the AVM hubs available thru ARB but have been told not to use them in place of the current Auto locking hubs that are currently in place.

Any help would be much appreciated.

OK, I'll bite! Why on earth would you want to replace the auto locking hubs with manual ones?

Current hubs need replacing (or repairing) and I would prefer Manual hubs to be 100% sure whether they are LOCKED or FREE. With the Auto hubs there is only LOCK or AUTO.....no free mode.

Also heard that manual hubs are much stronger.

But main use is for when parking the van or trailer in tight spots (up or down hill) it is good have the LOW range without driving the front wheels. (ie no need for 4WD on hard surface....just the low range gearing)

Auto hubs have a habit of unlocking when going down hills and reversing unless you get the wheel brace out and lock the hubs in. The DX hubs will fit in place of the auto hubs no worries and is a good idea.

Manual hubs are very expensive (~$700 I think) unless you can get a good deal from a wreckers. AVM hubs are pretty good but not as strong as the Nissan ones but they are cheap so if they do break you carry 2 spare and still be cheaper than Nissan. BTW I haven't heard of anyone breaking the AVM yet (but there might be people out there that have).

GQ manuel locking hubs are easier to find and are cheaper still.
Yes they fit, I put them in replace of our auto hubs after we blew a few pairs of auto hubs up!
Weve never blown the manuel hubs up in all our years of competing. Dont bother about buying AVM hubs, just use the GQ ones - exactly the same as the DX model hubs. Whatevers cheaper.
