Hi Rodeo owners and clutch/gearbox fans,
While up north my clutch decided to only disengage with the last quarter of the pedal. I was rather concerned as I thought the presure plate was on the way out. The pedal was still diengaging the clutch on the last quarter of travel up until a couple of weeks ago and has slowly gotten better with the clutch pedal feeling almost back to normal. But there is a small shudder and also the gearbox feels notchy between gears. The diagnosis today was that the shaft that is at the front of the gearbox that the trust bearing slides back and
forth on has worn as a result of dust getting attracted to the grease on the shaft and that in turn has acted like sand paper and worn the shaft down so that it travels back and
forth cocked on the shaft.
Holden seem to think this is normal if you drive in the dust all the time. Has anyone experienced this before?
They will warrant the parts but I have to pay labor.

That diagnosis sounds a bit doggy to me,especialy on an 02 model
Could be a couple of things. 1. Oil on the clutch plate caused be a leak from either the engine or the gearbox seals, this mixed with the dust from the plate forms a glue substance that causes the plate to hang on when the clutch is lifted and can also cause the shudder. You may have had a small leak caused by a bit of foreign matter under a seal that has now stoped leaking thus the improvement.
2.Air in the clutch hyd system, but with no fluid loss unlikely but still a posibility as it can self bleed out.
3.The Rodeo also had a problem with the firewall cracking around where the clutch master cylinder bolts on,this causes the pedel to loose travel but also unlikly as yours has improved.
I tend to think it may have got a little oil on the clutch plate and this problem would also tend to make the gears feel notchy as the plate would be sticky and not letting it disengage properly. Hope you get it sorted. good luck.
