Ok first off sorry for touching on a subject i have a hint its been bought up many times before.

My question is what 4x4 is best for this job im looking to get out of the morgage worries and sell up and buy a 4x4 and a caravan and just travel .

looking at a secondhand 4x4 in the $30,000 range TD manual but auto doesnt phase me space/extra cab or dual cab tray, comfort i would like as i had a back injury it will have tool boxes on the back ill be fitting airbags and new suspension

and the caravan will be 20foot plus so ill need up around the 3tonne tow capacity.

thank you for your time. Regards Aaron

Gday,
I would be looking at something with coils all the way around if your back isnt the best.
Cheers

yeah agree with Hairy, last thing you want is a sore back, even leaf rear end with a load on wont ride as nice as say a patrol with coils all round only problem they didn't come in dual cab or auto, Sounds like you will be up around the 3t mark so you will need to do some homework on the vehicle you want, taking into account, water, all your on board stuff, toolboxes, extra fuel if you put in say a long range tank etc, all adds up and will reduce your towing capacity. And I wouldn't go by the manufactures weight either, I would tow the van and get it weighed at a weigh bridge, towing over the limit could cost your dearly if you unfortunately had a dingle........Regards Steve

Seriously consider a Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD. Mercedes engine, very car-like, but capable enough and a 3500kg tow rating. Economical, reliable and well-priced. I recommended it to my father, and he couldn't stop thanking me for the recommendation.
