Hi All,
I have recently bought a 1994 GQ patrol which had done only 24000 Kms. I have had a new LPG system fitted and it now has 37000 Kms. I am led to believe that they suffer from blown head gaskets or cracked heads. If this is the case what can i do to minimise the problem.
When can i expect to have a problem??
Regards,
Trevor.

All the ones i have seen are 250,000 o 300,000kms as an average.
If it hasnt happened by then it would be on my mind.

You could look at fitting an automatic "Flashlube' injector or something similar which adds a fluid to assist in lubrication as the gas burns dryer than petrol.
Flashlube is a brand name I think so maybe google it.
I am no mechanic but did have this fitted to a couple of GQs in the 90's.

Hi Trevor,
I had an '89 carby model on gas and suffered 3 cracked heads. Eventually traded her in for a diesel 'cruiser. Can't verify this, but all the ones with problems that I know of (and there were at least 2 besides
mine) were earlier carby models. I suspect the fuel injected ones may regulate the fuel a bit better (or there was a change in the mechanicals or the head??), as there are many of these later models with high mileages on gas around. It was a great vehicle, but very thirsty and after 3 heads, I'm afraid I'd had enough.
Cheers
Gerry

my 1st GQ was a carby engine .it was put on LPG when it was a pup
and it had amost 400k on it when it finally dissappeared from around town
and it never had any headgasket issues .it very very rarely ever needed to be
topped up with coolant and the same with tappet adjustment rarely had to
adjust them .
don,t stress over it and I wouldn,t bother with flashlube either
mine never
had it cheeers mechpete
