Hi all,
Just wondering about my GPS unit's ability to read maps when indoors. By that I mean should I be able to access the maps I have (
Flinders Ranges) in the map folder even when I am out of GPS range, and not actually in the Flinders. I basically just want to peruse them, but am finding that my GPS unit doesn't get past the GPS NMEA output page. When I switch the GPS function off, I still can't access the maps.
Any thoughts?

Hi
Smokey
Have a look at these tutorials, they are for the Hema unit, but Ozi Exp CE on your unit should work the same work the same.
Ozi Exp Tutorial

Hi Neil,
Thanks for
the tip - I just find the Oziexplorer site not very easy to follow. Information is widepsread, and difficult to piece together. Anyway, I guess I'll get there in the end.
Cheers

Hi
Smokey
They say "a picture is worth a thousand words" , I remember that one of the tutorials shows how to turn the gps off and view maps.
Cheers

Hi Neil,
Yep, I have seen that - only thing is, my GPS locks on to the GPS NMEA output screen and wont open/show a map from the file menu when you first turn on the unit. It says processing etc, and then does nothing. When I turn off the GPS, I still get nothing, until (as I have just learnt) I open the "select page" box and choose "main map" or similar icon. Then I get the desired map.
When I exit the program and re-enhter, it briefly loads the last map, and then defaults to the GPS NMEA output screen (no GPS fix because I am inside) until I again choose GPS off, select page and main map etc. It wont load from the open map in the file drop down list.

Smokey, there is quite a learning curve with OziCE but it is worth it to get used to it. With the configuration un-
check the start GPS and you can peruse the maps. I always found with bigger maps, like the 250k whole of Australia, the PDA took ages to load and get connected. I have a 624mhz Dell Axim but use a VMS these days. Neil has the tutes for you anyway which are very good. Don't expect to master OziCE overnight.

You just select the map you want to open and then scroll aroound on it, or swap to other maps at the cursor.

Hi
You have started two threads on basically the same question. Not a good idea, but no big deal.
Anyway - maybe you have solved your problem. If not please let us know what GPS unit you are using, what version of OziCe you are using and what happens when you try and open a map (error messages etc). Where do you have the maps stored (SD card?). Have you loaded both the image file (ECW/Ozf) and the calibration file (*.map) into the same folder? Can you view maps when you do have a gps fix or is it only a problem when you dont?
Cheers

Hi Greg,
Yeah - not very smart of me. Have two very sick parents and have been distracted - so only get a little time to think of other things.
I am using an ARM cpu device (500Mhz), and I believe I have downloaded the latest Ozi version from the website (though I couldn't be totally sure on that). I have the maps stored on the internal 4Gb flash (Nandflash) and have loaded both the ECW and .map file to the same folder. The only issue is when I try to view maps without a GPS fix.
Regards.

No worries.
The response you provided res.q.guy seems to suggest you are heading down the right path and advice provided by Who was that again? should also assist. See how you go. Finding a fellow OziCe user who you can meet face to face will accelerate your learning curve a lot, though this is not always practical I suppose.
Good luck
Cheers

Hi Greg,
Yes I agree, hands on practical advice would be very beneficial - sometimes though, it just takes some folk a little longer to catch on :)
Thanks for your help
Cheers.

Everyone's the same - no one is born knowing it. I just tend to hit every button when learning a new program, though not sure that’s the best course of action.
Persevere and I am sure after a short while everything will make sense.
Good thing about Ozi is that there is no shortage of people who have experience in its use and are willing to assist.
Cheers
