Hi,
Has anyone heard anything about the Toyota Sequoia? e.g. when will it be coming to Australia; what is it's towing capacity? etc.

I doubt if it will ever come to Australia through Toyota.

It's to close to the 200series and I don't think it would have a market.

It's designed for the US market and fits in between the 4Runner and the 200 series.

Over here we have the Hilux and 200 series with the Prado filling the gap.

Car manufactures can only bring in so many models (Law) and variants so for the Sequoia to be bought in under Toyota they would have to scrape another model that is currently sold here.

Plus the Australian market may be deemed to small or costly for Toyota to ADR the Sequoia.

I'm sure some low volume importer will bring them in but expect a 3 year old second hand Sequoia to be around the same price as a new 200 series and a new one a far bit more expensive.

Just checked out the link listed below and Toyota state that it is optioned with a 381 HP 5.7L V8 and 10,000 LB (4.5Tonne) tow capacity

That would probably slot it just above the 200 series I suppose.
Interesting comment about number of units sold daily in the US as opposed to the local market. Given all the fords and chevys and all the other makes sold in the US. They must shift some cars each year when the second hand market is taken into account also.

Cheers, Bruce

Actually, it sits below the LC200 and is considerably cheaper. Partly that is because the Sequoia is Toyota USA built and is only for the US and Canadian markets.

Not sure where you get the towing capacity. I read the Sequioa to have a towing capacity of 7300lb or 3300kg and the LC200, in US spec, has 8500lb or 3850kg.

Here is a link to the Sequoia.

They have been around for about 12-15 years in the USA and were pretty popular as a Toorak Taxi over here. Due to a fairly dated design they aren't as popular as they used to be.

Of course no diesel option over here but they do have a 381 hp Flex-Fuel model available.

They are price new from 40-50,000 USD and I've seen a few second hand ones available for as low as $8,000.

The Sequoia looks similar to the old 4runner. Having said that I wondered why Toyota Australia didn't bring in the new 4Runner that's available in about 30 different countries into Australia , and I had the pleasure of driving one when I was over in South Africa earlier this year. I wrote to Toyota Australia and asked why they didn't bring it into Australia, considering the success of the 4runner world wide.
I received a terse reply that the USA sells around 230,000 cars a day where as Australia struggled to sell that amount in one year. Pity, as its a very capable off road vehicle. However we have the Prado in place of the 4runner. So end of story as far as Toyota Oz are concerned, but nothing to stop one from importing one into the country. After all, its all Hi Lux components underneath and from the B pillar forward its the same vehicle inside and out.
