I know if you put the wrong oil in it will not start. Try the guys at Australia4wd
forum then the isuzu section, then their is a sub section for the 4jxi 3lt Diesel.
Cheers Pete

I had one for 8 years ....... 10W-40 for mild conditions should be quite ok - you need to go thinner for cold climates - specs go down as far as as 5W and 0W-30 for snow etc. Cold oil temperature governs how
well they start - crazy but true.
The later models were shipped with two batteries to try and get them running in cold condition starts.

I've been using castrol magnatec 10-40 in
mine, that is what holden recommends for the 4jx1.

Hi Caramelos,
we also have a 99 jack t/d and we use the 5w40 the penrite HPR5 i think it is. Anything higher than the 5W causes starting problems in the cold. I am from Tas and last yearr was in
Broome and had the car serviced and they put the wrong oil in and it became hard to start by the time we got to Karijini so we had to change the oil to a 5W. As some one has said there is a huge amount on the jackeroo
forum specifically on this issue
cheers

Hi
I owned one of these Jackaroos and found it a very capable and joy to drive vehicle.
The oil I used was BP VANELLUS C6 GLOBAL PLUS and found it started down to -5c. I wrote to Holden and even got a letter back endorsing the use of this oil.
Cheers and enjoy
