Can anyone tell the best camping ground in the Danbulla Sate Forest south west of Cairns and why.

This would be for a off road caravan 24 ft. Do not need power or water. Like to bush walk. Seeking level spot with view of the lake if possible. Free beer and dancing girls OK.

a, Platypus

b, Downfall Creek

c, Kauri Creek

d, School Point

e, Fong-on Bay

I have narrowed it down to Dawnfall, Kauri or Fong-on Bay. Does anyone know how busy these camp grounds get during school holidays?

Carlsp,
Check here to see how busy it gets. Site LinkarkId=92.

It can get very busy - personally we use Downfall Creek a fair bit and have found it to be quiet ie not so many water skiers. Fong - on can be busy but is large so you may find space away from the crowds (if there is a crowd). The website will advise on what sites are suitable for large vans and which aren't. Have a great time up there. It is a very nice place.

Cheers

Downfall Creek. Get in before the hols as most sites empty out a couple of days before. The start of a walking track around to Fong On Bay. Possible to put pots in off the bank and catch Red Claw.

Hi Carl,

we stayed at Downfall creek for 4 nights last week. Check out my blog 'Looking for fishing, camping.....etc' and you should find quite a lot of answers to your questions there. It is just my travel journal I am currently keeping of our travels in Qld.

Cheers,
Heather
