Yes it's really dangerous and everyone should not travel except me.

LOL

Steve - I'm with you :-)

Lets face it, one off incidents will not stop people traveling, but more may start passing you by if you are on the side of the road in trouble.

It pays to be a lot more cautious than we used to be :-)

The article reports the incident occurring 10 k north of Alice Springs. Not exactly very remote. Relevance to bush camping safety is very tenuous.

It is safe enough out there.

Perhaps they saw the guy littering the camp site ?

There are a lot of nutters out there but you are more likely to meet one on a city street than in the bush.

I'm with you D200Dug on this assessment:

"There are a lot of nutters out there but you are more likely to meet one on a city street than in the bush."

Maybe you have found the solution for those whose litter LOL "Perhaps they saw the guy littering the camp site ?"

Hi

I spent nearly 3 weeks free camping last month and did not feel threatened at any time. The only campspot which we chose to move on from because of previous weeks problems with drunken vagrants was actually a paid camping area with a caretaker. I found free campers to be friendly and considerate...generators included

regards Kc

it would be interesting to know what the circumstances were. did they know them? had he rubbed some one up the wrong way? road rage? he must of had a reason to shoot. i know there are nutters out there but it appears by the report he went out of his way to visit the victim.

thats sad to think it was a random attack. still seems strange tho. i still wonder if there was something underlying in the situation.

It certainly sounds to me that the gunmen and victim had some history. I find it most unusual that a guy with a shotgun would just drive up and shoot the other guy in the arm and drive off. Sounds like a warning, I have never heard of anyone being a serial wounder. If he was some nutter that got off on killing for the thrill he would have blown the victims head off and probably his female companion as well. He certainly had the weapon to accomplish the job at close range.

Thats a hell of a statement.....
I very much doubt you know the victim as well as I do, because if you did you would be suggesting he need WARNING about something with a shot gun?

pop2jocem - You have problems :-)

There would be millions and millions and more millions (get the drift) of cases where someone did something for no reason at all.

I love the way people on this site speculate before they know the facts,
It is quite amusing to say the least.
Here is a web site full of so called experts, that unfortunately have there say before all the facts are known.
Sorry I am one of these people that just see it and say it.
