Does anyone know if EvaKool still make the ED40? Its on their web site but when I went to the local camping store they told me they dont make it anymore. Also am wondering if this model is fibreglass like the others or a plastic model??

Evakool ED40 is a plastic box not built to the same standard is fiberglass fridge.
I believe it was sold by Engel called Engel lite a few years ago. Will find out if it is still sold.

Carac in Dandenong have one in stock, I think it is quite heavily reduced in price too. I have one & it is an excellent fridge.

Do you have the contact details for Carac?
How long have you had the fridge for? Being a danfoss compressor I would expect it to be quite efficient? Is it fairly rugged?

Yep, I've got one, paid $680 for it with the 240v thingy. Great value for money, very good insulation and very low current draw. If you find one, buy it!

Hi Ferret
thanks for the info. How long have you had the fridge for? You said it has very good insulation, I assume it is as good (or better) as Waeco or Engel?
Got an email from Evakool they said they have a couple of demo units for $599 pretty good price.

The fridge is plastic, but certainly more rugged than a Waeco. Carac are in Frankston Road, Dandenong, VIC.
I don't have their phone number.

Evacool make the best ice boxes in the business so you'd expect their fridge insulation to be pretty good! The BD35 comp. is very quiet and once you experiment with the thermostat and partitions, you will find that you will have a VERY good F.F. that does exactly that. Your meat ect is frozen solid and your beer, milk vegies etc are spot on without freezing. One more thing, they pull down to temp. very quickly and aren't bothered if you fill them up with warm stuff.
At that price buy it!

Hi Zapper,
I bought one last July from a Boots camping store (Great Outdoors), last July.
It went to
Broken Hill along the
Darling River Run and via
White Cliffs, and kept everything cool.
It runs pretty quietly. I like some others here, am relying on the rep of the Danfoss compressor to guarantee the quality and reliability. Time will tell. It takes a little juggling of the thermostat to get the settings right and not freeze the milk/beer/eggs :). The insulation is first class with no loss of cooling for a long time after powering it down, the cig lighter adapter had slipped out of the socket and went unnoticed for a fair time, while we were away from the car exploring
good fridge buy one and enjoy
cheers

Hi Wayne
The web site said it can operate as a fridge and freezer at the same time in two compartments. Is it a removable baffle or permanent 2 compartments, can the whole lot be run as just a fridge.
The one offered to me is an ex demo a lot cheaper, the guy said it has a slight warp/ripple in the lid but still seals
well, comes with six month warranty for $599, seems cheap.

Hi Zapper,
There is a separate freezer compartment plus the fridge section. A slide-out divider is provided to divide the fridge section in two.
The case is plastic.
I paid $950 with the $99 240v adapter thrown in free. At the time the fridge alone was selling for $950 so I got a good deal. SO $500 is a bargain.
How some brands can justify a $1200 price tag is beyond me...its the same old story...people buy brand names but not necessarily quality.
There were references in past posts to this
forum to the evakool vs other brands, they influenced my decision to buy one, so far i haven't been disappointed.
cheers
