OK, so we have decided on the van It's going to be a Jayco Expanda Poptop. So dose anyone know of anything that we should look out for defects and the like. We like how the bed ends pop out, but do they leak?

Hi, we have a 16.49.2 with bunk beds so that we can fit the 4 kids in. We love it & haven't had any problems but you do need to make sure the pop top section is square when you fold it down - they can warp a bit. Our model is the last of those like in your photo - if you buy a July 2008 or later the roof of the bed ends is solid so no leaks. With the pre July 2008 models and the canvas bed ends you just need to make sure that your bedding is not touching the canvas if it is wet as you get seepage the same as in a tent but they don't leak as such. We used ours on the weekend of the big hailstorms in March so lots of rain & no problems with leaks. We also always put our bed end flys up as extra protection from the weather. Cheers

G'day Earthmover.

I have a 2009 16-49-3 Outback hardlid and I love it!

The first weekend I owned it we took it to Port Arthur where it got a hiding in some of the coldest/wettest Tassie weather we have ever had a caravan set up in.
Not a drop of water came in. You will probably get some mild condensation on the inside as you are sleeping under canvas but its not too bad.
It also copped a flogging in what my son still calls "the mother of all thunderstorms" in Yamba. Torrential rain for 24 hours in October last year. Dry as a bone. A friend has a 2007 onroad version and she has had no problems with hers either.

Took ours to Port Douglas last year and it is great to be able to open up the whole van to flow through ventilation, even when asleep, once it gets hot.

The only thing I've had to worry about is the drawer slide screws. Had to tighten them up whilst away and have since replaced them with bigger ones that bite a bit harder. Apart from that, everything in my van has worked perfectly for over 10000 kms . Will be putting some more k's on it in Sept going to Uluru.

Hi earthmover and family we bought a 2009 model poptop expanda outback we have been living in it for eight months we are traveling around australia for up to ten years, we have had all sorts of weather even strong winds, the only worry we have is the awning, we role it up in windy weather, there is a canvas rool up window under the awning, we find if you leave that open even in cold weather, it stopped the condesation forming, so far we have found the van great. good luck on your trips, watch out on the you may see us somewhere, we have on our van uptotenyearsroundoz cheers merv
