Research UPDATE:
BP Service stations at Normanton and Chillagoe ends say NO FUEL (3/6/2010).
I have been led to believe that although once an option, DUNBAR Station could have supplied the wayward traveller but nowadays it is not on, even by arrangement, was the feeling i get.

Hi Brendan,
the sign at the western end of Chillagoe says next fuel Normanton 560kms. I was there (in Chillagoe) until this morning.

Cheers, Heather

Off topic, however the Burke Development road is closed to thru traffic at the moment. the road is signposted at the Normanton end - I assume it is posted at the other end as well.

We wanted to travel from Normanton to Chilligoe, and have to go via the Savannah Hwy.

cheers

Hi Laurie,

Interesting to read that as as we drove out as far as Mungana yesterday to have a look around and don't remember seeing any signage from Chillagoe end. Of course it could have been there and we just missed seeing it. The road was like a dirt highway and must have been recently graded as far as we went.

Have just checked the road conditions on EO and yes, it seems that a couple of sections are closed. (latest update was a few days ago - 29.5.10) Maybe you could try to get more recent information before you set out along the Savannah Way.

Cheers,
Heather
