For those of you who are aware that the Cooper recently cut the
Birdsville track here are some interesting photos from my brother in law
Ross Image Could Not Be Foundwhen he was with the Highways dept and they were involved in getting the ferry running the last time.
"The first two photo's are of the ferry when it was inspected for rust or holes in the pontoons just before the Cooper started running in 89,tensioning one of the cables with the dozer in the background on the southern or Ettadinna side of the Cooper, Photo of the northern side,Test run, empty,Test run with bosses vehicle, naming of the ferry and the crew mainly responsible for the launching of the ferry. There were others involved but this group were the main ones from the beginning to the end. (Craig Rutgens,John(Morry)Curtis,Brian Deerlove,Gerald Avery,Peter Kapitola and
Ross Lehmann) This was an interesting and enjoyable part of my time with the highways department"Image Could Not Be FoundImage Could Not Be FoundImage Could Not Be FoundImage Could Not Be FoundImage Could Not Be FoundImage Could Not Be FoundImage Could Not Be Found

Historic Photos Brenton,
As I said a few nights ago on another post, We swam in the Coopers in Sept 1989 at this place on the Coopers and we have a photo with the kids clambering on the ferry. It was before the
water crossed the track.
Regards
Mike (Vic)

Hi, We hope so too as we are heading up there next month anticipating that the ferry will be up and running. We have a 4WD and camper trailer so hope that it can take the length. Until we hear that that it is running, the trip we have had planned for over 12 months is questionable. We are so keen to see the country and and I'm sure that the locals would not want to see their fair land cut off for months. We will keep watching with great interest. Sharron

SA Government should hang their collective heads in shame. They have shown nothing but dissent for the Pastrolists of the
Birdsville Track, and dissent for the travelling public.
I heard someone from DTEI this morning being interviewed on the wireless (ABC 639am) and the crock he was coming up with, was pure dissent. Apparently they left everything to the last minute, but because the flooding was a week early, it caught them unawares (or sleeping).
This is nothing short of a state and national disgrace, however I guess they don't care, because there isn't many voters.
It was dissapointing though, for him to report in that same article that 4WDrivers were flaunting the '
Road Closed', and continuing to push through. Anyone that gets stuck on a '
Road Closed', I have less than zero sympathy for.
regards,
Dion.

Hi all, I know this may be a stupid question but I am having trouble finding out some details about the ferry. I have read the conditions of use including weight, length, and so on. I understand about the caravan rule, but I am trying to find out if you can fit a 4wd towing a camper trailer?
The reason I ask this is I have seen pix of the ferry with 2 4wds on it, which of course leads me to this question. So can anyone help me on this as I have a group of 12 4wds 11 with campers traveling from
Birdsville down the track to
Marree.
Thanks in advance Steve.

HI Steve
Sorry no trailers allowed unless the total length is 7.8 mtrs. or under they MUST remain hitched to the vechiel trailers can not travel on thier own.
I know this as i am one that will be operating the ferry.
