Hi! On the 15th July this year (2010) we are setting off from our home in Tassie in our Jayco campertrailer with our 2 year old son Brayden. We are hoping to travel up to Northern QLD and back again over a 2-3 month period. Although we are extremely excited about the trip we are really hoping that we can find other families doing the same along the way and link up for different legs of the journey. So if anyone out there is planning a similar adventure, we would love to hear from you!

Greetings!
I did that trip with two teens last year in a Jayco Expanda.
If you're looking for kid friendly caravan parks have a look at my blog.

We went Hobart/Canberra/ then up to Rocky via the Newell and Leichhardt Hwys. Then up to Port Douglas. On our return trip we only backtracked for Port D to Rocky then beach-hopped home.
We wanted the kids to have pools etc to swim in at the end of each day to keep them out of our hair for a while. (especially while dad had his after drive cleansing ale!) This is why we didn't freecamp.

I would recommend a stop at Rollingstone Big4 C/P. Ask for a beachfront site. You wont be disappointed. Great pool for the kids and very swish amenities block. The Paluma area is only 20 mins drive from the C/P with rock pools and waterfalls very pretty spot.

Have a safe trip.

Becsam
You will be surprised how many people are travelling these days, you shouldn't have any trouble meeting others in your travels and teaming up with them for a few days.
We actually prefer to travel alone, but you will always, or nearly always, find that there are other campers nearby, very rarely can you nowadays find a camp site that you have to your self.
Enjoy your travel in NQ, we did it last year and had a ball, there are some wonderful coastal camp sites to be found.
Travel safely.
Cheers
Baz

Perhaps you can PM me your dates? We're doing a 3 week maiden voyage with the new CT from Brisbane > Cairns > Brisbane starting second week of August, so depending on your dates, we may be travelling up or down the QLD coast at the same time. We have 2 girls (3 & 4) and will be staying at Big4's and Top Tourist parks so the girls have playgrounds and pools and places to ride their bikes.

Sass.

Thanks guys! Yeah that might work out for parts of the trip. We are hoping to free camp as much as we can but are hoping to treat ourselves occasionally to a nice caravan park. Do you have a facebook account? Might be a good way to track progress during trip. We aren't planning any dates just yet...alll we know is that we have to be in Noosa by the first week in Septemeber. If you want to email me so we can keep in touch our email is becsam@live.com.au
Hope to hear from you soon

a great spot to camp for a couple of days is Murray Falls near Cardwell (i think , been awhile ,look at a map) magic spot! great swiming , no crocs .very dense rainforest above the falls ,you wont be dissapointed ,no facilities ,campiing allowed .
