Hi all,

I'm sure someone will have been there and done that. Looking for an overnight stop to camp on the river, I believe the local Shire has a designated site for this. Can anyone help please.

Thanks,

Mike (Vic)

Hi Mike,
Camped there last year.
A free camping spot with a boat ramp and toilets, is on the town side of the bridge.
From town head towards the river and there is a turning on the right.
There is a thread already on this site, regarding camping in and around Hay, thread # 21668

The camp spot at Hay is known as Sandy Point Reserve, if it has been raining it could be very slippery, try the Show ground, was very good when we were there.
There are various other spots but they are a few Ks out of town.
While there go to the Shearers Hall of fame, very good.
Cheers

Camped there last October for one night. It was quite busy and a bit of a queue on the toilet. But its a good spot and even has a welcoming sign Image Could Not Be Found. You dont often see a sign like that !

Another good spot is at Maude, another 50km or so to the west of Hay - on the southern side of the river and a short distance along a track that runs to the west.

Cheers,

Hay gets My thumbs up for that.
When we stop there we make sure that a top up of supplies at the town is in order.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

William, Baz and John & Val,

Many thanks for your input , much appreciated. Just looked at the road reports tonight and not good news for our trip commencing next week with closures blocking our way. Even a hold up with permit issuing to Nhulumbuy because of high rivers on the road in. I'm hoping a few days (and weeks) will make a difference or I'll have to revert to plan B (yet to be formulated)

It's all part of tripping around I guess.

Regards

Mike (Vic).
