Having read some recent posts re this area I offer the following...All roads in the
area north of Cloncurry are good, & despite advice you may receive in Gregory
Downs...you can easily take any van into Adels Grove or Lawn Hill NP with care.
Lawn Hill to Doomadgee is still closed. Roads from Windorah through Diamantina
NP are all good...you will find no water more than ankle deep over road. Despite
all the rain there is not 2 foot of grass in the channel country & most creeks are,
as usual, dry. A lot of work taking place at Lawn Hill to improve facilities there,
but it was crowded & we found Adels a more pleasant place in spite of being a
bit exy & no power. This stuff current 2 weeks ago......oldbaz.

G'day Mal, I cant recall the name of the camp, but it is the first one from the south, on a large waterhole maybe a km long by 300m wide. Unfortunately the
rapidly receding water level meant standing in ankle deep mud to fish, not much fun...lost a large ??? when it threw the lure. The camp area is about 50m from the water & is only about 300m long, only 3 rigs in there including us, so dont expect much room or privacy in July. One long drop dunny. The other camp area
is more shady but access to the water not as good. We chose first one on recomendation of Ranger. Gennies not allowed, but as other 2 ran theirs we did
likewise. To be honest we were a bit underwhelmed with the place & moved on
the next day. After throwing many lures for many hours with only one hook up
I wouldnt describe it as a fishos paradise either, maybe I needed bait. Caught
nothing in Yabby pots either using marsupial roadkill as bait. Birdlife was plentiful
if thats your thing, not very scenic. Sorry to sound a bit negative, but it didnt
meet the good reports we had of the place. Roads all good...one rig present
being a Winnebago thingie. I hope you find it to your liking, but have some
alternatives in mind...cheers....oldbaz.

Thanks for that Oldbaz.
From reading other accounts of DNP I had in my mind that it would be this vast expanse of green and waterways still full to the brim, birds galore, but taking on board what you have said we will still go and have a good time and see another place I've never been too.

Cheers

Thanks for that oldbaz.
Heading up that way in 3 weeks time. Any idea when the Adel's Grove to Doomadgee road is likely to open?

Cheers,
Roo.
