I'm looking for somewhere to escape the crowds for the June (Qld) long weekend.

Normally I'd go up the beach to Teewah but it seems every man and his dog has got a 4WD these days and the the rednecks have trashed the place.

I'm thinking of trying Benarkin State Forest near Blackbutt - has anyone had experience with these camp grounds? Would you recommend Clancy's or Emu Ck camping areas?

Thanks for any advice.

Have not been in for awhile, live not far up the road, but basically one allows dogs and the other does not. Should be able to check on availability on line at www.derm.qld.gov.au/parks

Some of Clancy's sites are uneven (sloping) not bad but maybe annoying enough. Emu Ck is beautiful in my opinion. Very relaxing and relatively quiet considering we went there Anzac Day l/weekend one year. Kids even caught small fish in the creek...to our surprise. Nice walks along the creek bed. Flushing toilets were very clean when we were there.

Have fun,
Trevor.
