So I've emailed one camper trailer firm and 4
places selling Avan's in the last 48 hours (or more) with very simple and specific enquiries about purchasing and guess how many have got back to me so far out of the 5 businesses I contacted?
Thats right, not one. I attached my phone number to the emails and no calls either.
Is this normal in this industry? Surely someone must turn up to work, open up emails and answer basic enquiries? It's not like they were difficult ("do you have so-and-so in stock and what is price for this" etc.)
I'll give it another 48 hours and see how it goes.
My real concern here is if these 'dealers' are so slack and can't even answer basic email enquiries, what kind of service will they provide after they take my money?
From a personal standpoint, I would lose lots of business in my sales-based wortk if I took this long to reply to customers.
Am I expecting too much?
*rant over*

You may find that they are at the
Brisbane 4x4 and Caravan show that is currently on at the RNA
showgrounds.
They seem to take awhile to reply when they are involved.

Very true Sir Kev & a most valid comment. Thank you for putting the situation in perspective.
But........ just because you blokes decide to put a bit of show on in Brisbaaaane, does that mean to say that all the dealers in Queeeensland have to shut up
shop??? C'mon Kev, you can do better than that in the interests of the Industry. We, the buying public from the Southern states are accustomed a much superior service than that.

I'd be most surprised if the dealers I emailed are all in
Brisbane. Besides don't these guys have laptops/iPads? :-)
None of them are based in QLD. Besides all that, I find it hard to believe a big operation like Avan Australia based in
Melbourne can't reply along with several of their NSW counterparts.

...and then we scream about people buying Interstate or overseas. The standard of customer service is in serious decline.
Even Gerry Harvey found that out when he went in disguise into his own stores.
Why do firms spend $thousands to advertise in the press and on TV and then don't bother to have a sales person on the desk. Beats the hell out of me!!!

Yep I agree.
Telstra is a good case in point, they must spend $millions on advertising when their staff in the Telstra shops seem vertually untrained on the products they are selling.

Came
home tonight to a message on my answer machine. A Telstra automated voice had tried to "survey" my machine on a call I had made a few nights previous to them regarding how stupid their automated system was. It kept saying "I'm sorry, I did not get that answer" bla bla and then eventually hung up. I wish I could play it to some one who would listen in the Telstra system. Bob.

You just might get a reply if you don't ask the price, just ask if they have one in stock.
Sometimes they don't want to commit to a price before they see you.

It is a little frustrating, but I ahve found the same thing. Some businesses just don't spend much time in front of the computer.

When I was looking for a Prado, I e-mailed a large yard that I knew stocked 4wds. I was specific in what I wanted and the price range..no reply.
So I when I found one privately I e-mailed again and said "disappointed in lack of response...your loss, I had the money sitting there...". THEN I got a response from the manager, all apologies..didn't know who took the e-mail...blah blah...I'm sure some slacker copped one up the backside!
Mark.
