Hi All
We have just bought an Iridium satellite phone off Ebay and tried our Next G sim card in it which works fine but I thought I'd ask the question that our normal Telstra mobile plan includes around $400 worth of calls each month so would the satellite phone charges be included in the plan or would they be separate to the plan.
I would call Telstra but what would they know.
Cheers
Mal

Hi Mal
I do not use the SIM card trick, but as i understand it, you are paying for divert from your mobile (ie the SIM card) to the satellite on inward and outward calls. I can't see this being covered by you present mobile plan, but someone using their card should be able to clarify.

It would get deducted from your $400 plan.
Watch out it is very pricey.

IT DOES NOT COME OUT OF YOUR PLAN
It is rated the same as 1900, 1234 or other special type calls
You pay over and above the plan call costs
My last and only call cost EXACTLY $3.77 for a 1 minute call
I am on a $49 cap plan and paid extra for it.
Was marked on the Bill as "Satellite" 1.00min $3.77
It is for the routing from the network through the Iridium satellites to you.
You also PAY THE SAME FOR INWARD CALLS so dont let the family ring you and
talk for 10 mins or that will be about $37.70 thank you says Telstra.
Also NON TELSTRA callers CANNOT TEXT you IE Vodafone and Optus etc.
IVe checked this out and it doesnt work. My son is on Vodafone and cant and a friend on Optus cant either.
You however can text them for about 50/75c.

Does a prepaid sim work or do you need a plan?
