Andrew
I have an Engel fridge that is sitting down the back of my garage waiting for its next holiday. Unfortunately the holiday might be a few months away. I have read that you really should keep it running for the seals etc. Seems a bit pointless to have an 80 litre fridge running without anything in it. We already have an upright fridge in garage with refreshments to keep me alive when I have been a naughty boy. (Typos in the email department have earnt me a spanking, so I am in the garage. LOL Honest it was a typo - Jen is my only love).
Do I just plug it in and leave it to run (on low) in the corner or run it once a week or month or ???- tis against my green instincts.

I am on my second Engel and still have the original one which lives in the road car. There have been times where this fridge has not been activated for months. It still works as
well as the day we bought it in 1986 despite having a broken
shell and broken electrical plug. I would not worry about having to run the fridge but there may be other advice out which is contrary to what I know.
Cheers,
Willie

ya can never have enough beer in the doghouse mate. It won't go off in the fridge and you just never know who might drop in to relieve you of some of it.
I like to keep
mine running and it gives me an excise to buy beer when I don't have any around the place. Is good for keeping a few bottles of wine cold for unexpected guests also.
Just my thoughtsAllyn
Where to next ?

Coops me and a fishing mate spend many an hour in the dog house. I have a second fridge in the garage to accomadate just these occasions. Hehas one day off generally during the week and I have days off that just happen to coincide. (hence the extra fridge) I wonder if that fridge should happen to go on the blink if the travelling Engel will be an absolute necesity. I'm sure the 80 series can find a space.
I just wonder

Hi Andrew... I did see in the instructions that you should keep it running as much as you can.... So i do just that because you would think that with all the R&D engel have done we should at least listen to them...._____________________________________________

Commute daily and leave my 40l engel in the back of the vehicle. This gives the dual battery a workout. handy for the
supermarket run and the fortnightly club trip.

Andrew,
we don't run ours much, but if you did want to, fill with bottles of water,(if you can't afford the beer) and that gives it some thermal mass(?) would run less, and look after your green instincts.
Hooroo...

Andrew, the only seal you have to worry about is the one on the lid. And keeping the engel running is not going to assist this from detoriation. There are no other seals that need lubrication from the refrigeration system. (its not like the car airconditioning compressor where the shaft seal needs lubrication from the oil in the compressor) Sit it in the corner of the shed and forget about it till next trip.
But make sure the inside is clean and dry before storing...or when you when open the lid you might be greeted with a pleasant smell.
Wow! am I cute

Hi guys,
I store my Waeco for months without running it. That's all fine and dandy, but make sure that you clean it with anti-bacterial solution (I use the bottle washing compound from
my home-brew kit) and leave the lid open so it can breathe.
Now it's summer, the subwoofer from the stereo is OUT and the fridge is IN. It will sit there for the shopping trips and such. Constant use never hurts them.
